The Aviat A-1 Husky is a two-seat high-wing liaison aircraft based on the Piper PA-18 Super Cub design.
After Piper had ended the production of the Piper PA-18 Super Cub, Frank Christensen was interested to
restart the production of the Super Cub. But when purcharging the design proved unfeasible, Christensen decided to redesign
the Super Cub with the assistance of a computer-based programme and made the modifications he felt were needed and launched
the design as the Husky. As the Super Cub, the Aviat A-1 Husky is a two-seats, high wing monoplane of steel cage construction
with conventional tail and tail wheel and powered by single piston engine. In 1986, the prototype Christen Industries Inc A-1 Husky
s/n 1000 was flown first as N6040H. On 1 May 1987, FAA certification of the original A-1 version under FAR Pt 23 was achieved by
Christen Industries, Afton, Wyoming. On 4 April 1991, Type Certificate passed to Aviat Inc., then White International LTD on 3
December 1992, then Sky International Inc. on 10 January 1996, and finally to the present Type Certificate Holder Aviat Aircraft Inc.,
Afton, Wyoming, on 27 February 2012. Production was performed by the US-American manufacturer Christen Industries at their Afton, Wyoming
Location. In March 1991, Aviat Inc. acquired the Type Certificates and rights to the A-1 Husky aircraft. Despite the Type Certificate Holder
changed several times over the years, Marketing, Engineering, Fabrication, Assembly, and Flight Testing operations for the A-1 Husky remained
at the same Afton, Wyoming location. The ICAO Aircraft Type Designator for the Aviat A-1 Husky is HUSK

- Husky A-1B — serial numbers 2000 and up - certified on 28 January 1998; powered by a 180 hp Lycoming 0-360-A1P engine. The A-1B can be modified to accept a 200 hp Lycoming IO-360-A1D6 engine and an MT MTV-15-B/205-58 propeller under an STC
- Husky A-1C-180 — serial numbers 3000 and up - certified on 24 September 2007; powered by a 180 hp Lycoming 0-360-A1P engine. A Garmin equipped A-1C cockpit. The 180 has a gross weight of 998 kg and a useful load of 420 kg
