The Sonaca Aircraft S200 is a low-wing, two-seat very light aircraft with an all-metal structure; a fixed tricycle landing gear and
powered by a single four-cylinder, four-stroke liquid / air-cooled Rotax 914F engine with opposed cylinders, generating approximately 115hp.
The airframe structure is conventional, consisting of frames, stringers, and sheets made from advanced aluminum alloys that offer highly
effective corrosion protection. The Sonaca 200 is designed and built as a two-seat training and leisure aircraft by Sonaca Aircraft S.A.,
Namur, Belgium. In fact, the Sonaca 200 is a further development of the Sling Aircraft Sling 2, formerly called The Airplane Factory Sling 2,
a two-seat light aircraft designed and produced by Sling Aircraft, Johannesburg, South Africa. In April 2015, an initial demonstrator aircraft
as a precursor to the final Sonaca S200 was assembled by The Airplane Factory in Johannesburg. In April 2017, Sonaca Aircraft unveiled the
new version of the Sonaca S200 in which 80% of the structure has been redesigned compared to the initial "Amateur Construction" prototype version.
On 5 August 2015, Sonaca applied for the EASA Type Certification. On 12 June 2018, the Sonaca Aircraft S200 obtained type certification from the
European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in the light sport aircraft category. The same year, after obtaining the Type Certification of the S200,
Sonaca Aircraft announced the development of a Glass Cockpit variant, named the S201. In 2017, the Sonaca S200 went into production. Production
was halted in May 2022, after 58 S200 and S201 aircraft had been completed. The ICAO code for the Sonaca Aircraft S200 is SLG2. On 6
July 2020, Sonaca Aircraft S200 s/n 019 was registered OO-NZE in Belgium by Socana Aircraft S.A., Namur. On 13 July 2020, Sonaca Aircraft
S200 OO-NZE was flown first at Namur-Temploux. On 12 October 2020, the OO-NZE was registered with Noordzee Vliegclub (NZVC), Oostend.
On 5 March 2024, registration OO-NZE was cancelled. On 12 March 2024, the aircraft was registered PH-RGJ in the Netherlands by
Sonacair BV. The Socana Aircraft S200 PH-RGJ and its sistership PH-ELW are operated by Flight School Teuge. On 8 August 2026,
the 2020-built Sonaca Aircraft S200 PH-RGJ was seen at Teuge airfield (EHTE). |
