Designed originally for agricultural duties under the designation SKh-1, the An-2 utility transport
flew for the first time on 31 August 1947. Of robust construction and suitable for operations from
short, semi-prepared strips, the Antonov An-2 has been manufactured for both military and civil roles.
The An-2 remained in production until 1991. Over 18.000 of the different types were built in the
Ukraine (5000), Poland (12000) and China (1000). The ICAO Aircraft Type Designator for the Antonov An-2R is AN2 |
Antonov An-2R Antonov An-2R c/n 1G165-24 was built in 1975 by WSK-PZL in Poland and originally delivered
as CCCP-19710 to ALL/Belarus. After the Soviet Union split up it was registered LY-AFC in
Latvia with H. Bibilas. In 1995, An-2R LY-AFC was noticed at the former Jerusalem International
Airport (JRS). The An-2R was sold in Israel and in November 1997, registration 4X-CYC was reserved,
but not taken up. In July 2003, the airframe was noticed at the Megiddo Airstrip in Israel with the
false registration RF-FLA. After some maintenance was done, the An-2R left Israel in 2003 on route to
Estonia. The Antonov An-2R didn't finish the trip as it had to land out of precaution due to technical
problems at Szeged aerodrome in Hungary. The Antonov An-2R was staying idle at the aerodrome, till it
disapeared in 2013. Registration RF-FLA painted on the aircraft is a prefix and indicates that the
An-2R was registered in the Russian Federation. The real registration of the An-2R is not know but if
RF-FLA was intended it had to be FLA-RF-followed by numbers. "FLA-RF" means Federation of Light Aviation /
Federahtsiya Lyubiteley Aviahtsii Ros-seeyskoy Federahtsii. In 1992, the prefix RF- was suggested for aircraft
registered in the Russian Federation, but this was not accepted by the ICAO. RA- became the prefix for aircraft
registered in the Russian Federation. On 15 May 2004, Antonov An-2R 'RF-FLA' was seen staying idle at Szeged aerodrome (LUHD/QZD). |
