The Cessna 500 Citation is a twin-engine executive jet aircraft for 2 crewmembers and up to 6 passengers.
The Cessna 500 Citation was the successor of the Morane-Saulnier MS-760
Paris II and the HFB-320 Hansa in service with the RLS.
The Rijksluchtvaartschool operated seven of these low noise aircraft. The Cessna 500 was the standard jet
trainer operated by the KLM Luchtvaart School and its predecessor the Rijks Luchtvaart School in the period
1972-1997. The Rijksluchtvaartschool was owned by the Dutch Government before it was sold to the KLM. As
the RLS was, the KLM Luchtvaart School is based at Groningen Airport Eelde in the Netherlands. The KLS was
renamed to KLM Flight Academy.
The 1974-built Cessna 500 Citation s/n 500-0177 PH-CTF (ex. N177CC) was registered in the Netherlands
on August 15th 1974 by the Dutch Government on behalf of the Rijksluchtvaartschool. When in August 1991
the RLS became the KLM Luchtvaartschool the Citation was transferred too. In May 1995 the PH-CTF was
sold to Uniwest Air at Lelystad Airport; in May 1997 the aircraft was sold in the USA and registered
as N192AB. After it was registered N888XL, the Citation was registered as N883XL on 10/15/1997. The
N883XL was registered with Diamondair LLC on 30/10/2003 and on 13/02/2004 Diamondair LLC was authorized
to change this registration to N431LC.
